![]() ![]() ![]() Cross border transactions between the USA and Canada take part everyday and play a large role in the continuing economic recovery. Searching out the best deal is a respectable trait which traditionally will lead you south of the border. But what if this practice can put you and the people you love in danger? Currently, any AED (automated external defibrillator) sold in Canada must be certified and licensed by Health Canada. This process includes rigorous testing, documenting, recall and reporting procedures to ensure that all Canadians are provided with only the most tightly controlled medical devices available. Some people advocate that this is just another "cash grab" by the Government but imagine the consequences of requiring a medical device to save someone's life only to find that due to unrestricted quality control, it doesn't function properly. The probability of a poorly built AED making it to the market in a large mass is unlikely; by subscribing to the mind set of "Buying Canadian" when it comes to your defibrillator you are receiving the hard work and confidence that the Government, manufacturers, distributors and retailers put in a system to protect you, our client.
AEDSolutions.ca will only carry AEDs from manufacturers approved by Health Canada. These companies take great pride in producing high quality, reliable products. In order to fall within the Health Canada guidelines the manufacturers must produce Canada specific units with corresponding serial numbers. For Canadian consumers, only those units with Canadian serial numbers will be warranted under the manufacturer's terms & conditions. When researching the purchase of your AED, ensure you inquire to confirm that the seller is an MDEL holder in good standing and is only offering products approved by Health Canada. Purchasing south of the border in most scenarios is a great idea; however, in this instance it could lead to health and liability issues not worth the small savings. If you are purchasing from a US distributor, make sure they have a Canadian distribution agreement with the manufacturer. Not having this agreement could lead to future issues for both the purchaser and the distributor.
